The Rio Grande del Norte National Monument – Jan. 22, 2015

My favorite haunt in the Monument is the Orilla Verde (“Green Banks”) section, which stretches from Taos Junction bridge about 6 miles downstream to near the village of Pilar. In the summer, our company, New Wave Rafting Co., operates rafting trips there, and I fish these same waters on many evenings. In the winter, I look for wintering bald eagles, ducks, geese, and whatever other wildlife may show itself, which can include bighorn sheep, elk, deer, otters and coyotes. These photos were taken with my new Nikon Coolpix P600 “Superzoom” camera, which zooms to 60X!
